HydroDesktop is a free and open source GIS enabled desktop application that helps you search for, download, visualize, and analyze hydrologic and climate data from a CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System central registry. CUAHSI is the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc.. HydroDesktop is part of the legacy CUAHSI toolkit and is not under active development. You can download and install it from the HydroDesktop GitHub page.
Quick connection instructions follow as well.
Click on Search → Select Data Sources → Advanced Options and insert one of the available HIS Central URL offered by WHOS broker.
Note that there are available multiple endpoints depending on the view of interest. Example given:
Arctic view HIS Central URL
La Plata river view HIS Central URL
Then you can search (e.g. selecting area, keyword, temporal interval).
The results will be shown on the map.
Clicking on a result, actual data is downloaded from WHOS and plotted. Behind the scenes WHOS contacts the matching data provider to request the data, and will perform the harmonization to WaterML as requested by Hydro Desktop.
